Welcome to “Disability Sport Donegal” the new section of the Donegal Sports Partnership website. This website has been developed as part of the Sports Inclusion initiative which last year saw the appointment of Thérèse Laverty as Sports Inclusion Disability Officer (SIDO) for County Donegal. Thérèse’s role as Sports Inclusion Disability Officer is to promote Sport and Physical Activity amongst People with Disabilities in Donegal and to raise the awareness on the benefits of their participation.
Sports Inclusion Disability Officer Programme Report Launched
The “Sports Inclusion Disability Officer Programme Report 2009-2011” has just been launched by Mr Dinny McGinley, Minister of State at the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs. The report summarises the key developments within the SIDO initiative, refreshes the key aims and objectives of the project and promotes ongoing and active participation of people of all abilities in sport and recreational physical activity. Coaching Ireland – CPD Coaching People with Disabilities Workshop
Donegal Sports Partnership will host a Coaching Ireland – CPD Coaching People with Disabilities Workshop on Saturday 15th of October from 10-2pm in Letterkenny. This training workshop developed by Coaching Ireland in conjunction with the National Governing Bodies of Disability Sport in Ireland aims to support the work of coaches and leaders in the application of their coaching knowledge and skills to create an environment which encourages people with disabilities to participate in sport and physical activity. European Congress of Adapted Physical Activity (EUCAPA) 2012

“Come & Try” with Donegal Sports Partnership’s Sports Ability Day
Donegal Sports Partnership will host their Annual Sports Ability Day on Saturday 24th of September in Aura Leisure Complex, Letterkenny from 10-2pm. The event which this year runs as part of Social Inclusion week and is also supported by Donegal County Council is a “Come and Try” event for people with disabilities and offers them the opportunity to try sports which they may not have previously tried. Outdoor Pursuits for Children with Disabilities
Donegal Sports Partership are organising 2 summer outdoor pursuits sessions for children with physical disabilities. The sessions are taking place at Gartan Outdoor Education Centre and are open to the children, their friends, siblings or other family members. “RampRage” Extreme Sports Show Comes to Letterkenny on Wednesday 22 June
As one of the highlight events of National Bike Week Donegal Sports Partnership has invited Ireland’s No1 Extreme Sports Road Show to Donegal. RampRage who are setting up their first ever gig in Letterkenny at the Letterkenny Aura Leisure Complex on Wednesday 22nd June from 6:30pm-9:00pm.
‘RampRage’ is a team of professional athletes delivering show-stopping demonstrations from the world of freestyle BMX. As part of a program of events surrounding the National Bike Week 2011, RampRage are teaming up with Donegal Sports Partnership to bring the public a high octane Freestyle BMX show as well as BMX workshops from the best in the business.
This is world class entertainment not to be missed!! Admission €5 Adults, €2 children u-12yrs. RampRage is a product of the charity T13, Ireland’s Largest Urban Playground which incorporates sport art and dance through demonstration and workshop formats.
